Manila Water Foundation supports the livelihood and sustainable endeavours of the Makati Persons with Disability Green Consumers Cooperative, through its Kabuhayan Para Sa Barangay (KPSB) program. As an organization that focuses on underlining the capacity of persons with disabilities (PWD) as a significant part of a business production line while upholding environmental stewardship, the Makati Persons with Disability Green Consumers Cooperative manufactures and retails eco-friendly bags, pillows and pillowcases, swatch rags, and other sewn products. Recyclables such as used plastic tetra packs and old tarpaulins are reused as basic materials for its products.

Danilo Villas, Department Head of the Makati Cooperative Development Office, applauds the Cooperative for its desire to make a difference critically needed by the environment. “The local office truly salutes these PWDs who, in their own ways, live up to our environmental obligations” he shares. “We extend this respect to Manila Water Foundation for recognizing and strengthening such efforts. May the cooperative value this support to embolden the Foundation to continue its pursuit” he furthers.

Together with its 39 members, the Cooperative accepts the seed-capital with a promise to expend this on the road to better operations. “Each of us (members of the Cooperative) will work hand-in-hand to make this source of opportunity flourish”, says Errol Barba, Chairman of the Cooperative. “We are overwhelmed, and at the same time proud of the trust given to us by Manila Water Foundation. All the help we are receiving attests the trust granted to us by various parties as well as the local government” he adds.
The said beneficiary is the 14th cooperative that has received financial backing from the Foundation’s livelihood assistance program. Since its initiation in 2003, the KPSB program has already touched the lives of 2,265 families from Base of the Pyramid (BOP) communities. According to Ferdinand dela Cruz, President of Manila Water Foundation, the KPSB project aims to aid formed cooperatives like the said PWD group that are struggling to carry out its goals. “We are presenting the maximum grant of P200,000 to the PWD Green Consumers Cooperative not only because of their great potential, but also because of the immense optimism they exhibit towards their work and their cause” he voices.Koko Tamurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13286973686216030681noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-538629478952332073.post-60738473317192775122013-12-05T08:07:00.000-08:002013-12-05T08:07:51.812-08:00Kok’s Manok – Cavite’s Latest Noche Buena Treat

Noche Buena is one thing all Pinoys look forward to this yuletide season. Everyone will be busy planning what to serve on the eve of Christmas – the sinfully delicious lechon, the pleasingly sweet leche flan and of course, the aromatic roasted chicken that will always be one of the favorites.

And when it comes to chicken, Kok’s Manok is the place to go for that delectable serving of So Juicy, So Lambot roasted chicken. Opened last August 31, 2013, the take-out restaurant already gained a following in Imus, Cavite just a month after its opening. But from a handful of stores which offers the same product, why does Kok’s Manok continues to gain loyal customers?

One. It is So Juicy, So Lambot! As the tagline says, the chicken is cooked in a rotisserie at a precise temperature and time creating an evenly cooked chicken – inside and out.

Two. It is a healthy option for the health-conscious. The method of cooking allows the chicken to get rid of the excess oil – leaving only the natural juice of the chicken along with the special marinade within the chicken meat.

Three. It is affordable and comes with different flavors. Aside from the Classic recipe, Kok’s Manok also offers Garlic and Spicy flavor. And though each flavor is good on its own, every flavor is best paired with the special Kok’s Manok sauce mixed with catsup.

Enjoy your one whole Kok’s Manok for only Php 189.00 for the Classic flavor or just add Php 10.00 for the Garlic or Spicy options. The store also gives discounts for bulk orders this coming season. Caterers who wish to partner with Kok’s Manok will also receive a special discount and privileges.

I admit, I am always the type pf person who get starstruck, mostly when I am surrounded with god-like creatures, oozing with beauty, confidence and all the other stuff that I seem to lack.

But as my friend Mai and I had been discussing, it's totally a different experience when you meet someone legendary. In the local showbiz scene, I think there are two famous and legendary people that I am happy to have met, and even had a chance to take a photo with. That's Mr. Eddie Garcia and just recently, the Star for all Seasons and current governor of Batangas, Honorable Vilma Santos-Recto.

But what makes me really impressed (therefore makes me really into them) is the fact that despite their accomplishments and status in life, both are very humble and welcoming. And you know what, I don't think Gov. Vi is just acting it out. I really think that she is purely and sincerely pleasant.

She greeted everyone with her smile and inviting attitude. She made everyone comfortable in her presence. She joked and made everyone laugh, but most of all, she made everyone understood her message.

Her message was to improve the current situation of children (specifically school children) who are suffering with Micronutrient deficiency (MND). Along wit FNRI-DOST (Food and Nutrition Research Institute - Department of Science and Technology and Nestle Bear Brand, they conducted a study on how drinking fortified milk drink can help solve the problem on MND; or the condition where children are deficient of zinc, vitamin C, iron, among other micronutrients. The reality of MND is actually common yet unsolved. This is in fact, one of the reasons why most children do not perform well in school, cannot absorb new knowledge and even why they get sick all the time.

I learned all these during the Nestle Bear Brand event for the awareness of MND, where I also met Gov. Vi. I am a milk drinker ever since, and though I drink it because I have acquired the love for it, it's a first for me to learn all the other things milk can do for people; more than healthy bones and teeth.

And thanks to Gov Vi, who was very passionate in explaining even the nitty-gritty of this reality, I was able to absorb it, understand it and I can say, I can even be an advocate of milk drinking because of this.

She may be occupying the seat of power in the whole province of Batangas, but in her heart Governor Vilma Santos-Recto is simply a mother taking care of the health of her family and of the community. The love and concern she shows to her constituents through her “health-first” policy has earned her the respect and trust of her people.

“As a mom, it is my priority to take care of the health needs of my family, and this extends to my larger family of Batangueños,” she admits. “I have always believed that even if you raise the quality of education, give jobs or livelihoods, or provide infrastructure, it would all be useless if the people suffer from poor health.”

Santos-Recto channels this outlook through her HEARTS Foundation, which stands for Health, Education and Environment, Agriculture, Roads, Tourism and Security. Putting much emphasis on health, she is rightfully concerned about the condition called Micronutrient Deficiency and how it affects millions of Filipino schoolchildren.

This is the reason why, for several years now, she has been supporting health advocacies that fight malnutrition. Her campaigns continuously educate and encourage both parents and kids on the importance of eating healthy foods and drinking milk.

“Parents should know the right food choices at ito ang dapat na binibigay nila sa mga anak nila,” she says. “Lalo na ngayong panahon na naman ng pasukan, being healthy is very important because otherwise, maaaring maging masakitin ang mga bata, o kaya matamlay, laging nag-aabsent.”

Santos-Recto explains that kids who always seem to lack energy, easily get tired or have a hard time concentrating on their schoolwork are likely candidates for Micronutrient Deficiency. Lacking essential nutrients like Iron, Zinc, and Vitamin C in their diets, these children often grow up to be underweight or stunted, conditions from which roughly half of Filipino kids suffer.

“Ayon nga sa survey ng Food and Nutrition Research Institute ng Department of Science and Technology, four out of five schoolchildren suffer from lack of iron,” she says. “Seven out of ten public school students naman ang may kakulangan ng Vitamin C, samantalang one out of five ang kulang sa Zinc.”

The governor is happy that, through her collaboration with Nestlé Philippines and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST), she is able to communicate to a wider audience the importance of eating nutritious food and drinking milk. BEAR BRAND Powdered Milk Drink is fortified with Tibay Resistensya nutrients Iron, Zinc and Vitamin C to help children in their proper growth and development during their formative years.

As a respected actress and public official, and as a health advocate, Santos-Recto’s commitment as well as credibility comes from being a mother herself to her family, to her community and, ultimately, to the whole country.

Many would think that the Energizer Night Race is just another trend… running + night + lights = fun! But let’s get down to what the race is truly about: it is about spreading “PositivEnergy”; it’s about making people realize how important energy is and how it should be conserved; and it’s about creating a chance for our less privileged countrymen to experience “light” not as a luxury but as a right and privilege.

Not many understand this fact of life but somehow through the Energizer Night Race happening all over the world, somehow a portion of people now has a “brighter” image of what this cause is all about. And it does not hurt to learn, while having fun in the process.

That’s why Energizer Philippines makes every single of its race more interesting and enjoyable for the participants. In fact, at the recently concluded night race last May 4, 2013 at the Bonifacio Global City, aside from giving away prizes for the top finishers, they also had a side contest through the singlet design contest where the participants with the most creative and best “quote” also goes home with special prizes.

Aside from the usual route as well, they also created the dark tunnel, where the creative singlets will glow impressively in the dark. This is a favorite among the runners… some even disregarded their time by stopping and taking a photo of themselves. This goes to show that the run is not really about who gets the fastest time, it is really about having fun and doing something significant for the benefit of the society.
Of course, PRC INC was there as well, not missing the moment to support such noble cause. And although I wasn’t able to run, being there and seeing the beauty and nobility of the race is good enough for me.

While everybody’s preparing for the summer season, cutting down on carbs and staying sexy for their beach escapades… I was preparing myself too. I was preparing my tummy for a sumptuous summer treat that could tempt every last one of your bones: it’s not sexy… it’s yummy!

Last May 4, 2013, Julie’s Bakeshop and I had a delicious rendezvous when they showcased their latest offerings for the most awaited season of the country. And boy, was I impressed! Not only was I intrigued by the colorful treats, but the moment I took a guilty bite… let’s just say “they got me”.

Of course, not many of you would take my word for it. But then it wouldn’t hurt to try, right? But beyond what your palate can celebrate for, the Julie’s Bakeshop Summer Breads are just right for the pocket, especially now that it’s summer and the kids are probably hanging out at home. So why not, make the most out of the vacation not only by going out on a trip, but bringing delectable munchies along the way. The price range of the summer breads is from Php 5.00 to Php 45.00 per piece, a lot cheaper than the others. And kids will especially love it, since it is literally an eye-candy!

So without further ado, here it is:
I do not usually blog about fashion, because I am the least (or probably second-to-the-last) fashionable person in the world; ironically, I am a daughter of a budding fashion designer. On my mom’s defense, she is the total opposite of me and for years, she has been trying to dress me more appropriately. On the first few years of my life, she was able to decently dress me up (thanks to her fashion sense) but sadly, when my adult time came up… I was gonners!

For some reason, my definition of fashion is shirt, shorts/cotton pants and flat shoes… and when I say flat… it means anything from sneakers, to running shoes, to those sanuk-type of footwear to slippers! (not the doll shoes, or whatever that is called).

Okay, so enough about me… and let’s move on to why I got knocked down by fashion with two of the most important people in my life: my mom (Mavic Designs) and one of my best friends, Julie.

I really have nothing to say but it looks fantastic, in a very unbiased way. It is taken by Desi Bariuan… and to think that these guys (from the designer, to the model and up to the photographer) are fresh, amateur ones… they did great and I just had to blog…. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The photos kickass, the gown is ravishing (something Hollywood celebs would probably wear, *cross-fingers*) and the model just gave justice to it (just for the record, the model had to work her way to the dress coz it was a lot sizes bigger… but she did fine, right?). And of course, without Desi and his judgment... the photos wouldn't look like this... =)

Here are the photos!!!!

MANILA, Philippines – March 18, 2013, – In keeping with changing technological trends and consumer demands, Cherry Mobile today introduced two new stylish smartphones that run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – OMEGA HD and FLAME 2.0.

OMEGA HD boasts a 12-megapixel rear snapper with quick activation from the handset's camera hotkey. Its autofocus cam is equipped with an LED flash and a BSI sensor, which allows users to capture quality images in adverse conditions, such as low light or bright backlighting.

OMEGA HD also gives more experienced users the freedom to adjust the ISO, exposure, and white balance manually. The camera features available through the handset offer shooting modes such as HDR and panorama as well as self-timer, touch focus, scene modes, and color effects. Aside from its rear camera, OMEGA HD also comes with a 2MP BSI front snapper for video calls.

The dual-SIM and dual-standby smartphone is armed with a dual-core processor clocked at 1Ghz and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It comes with 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory (expandable to 32GB via microSD), and 2100 mAh battery. The handset's 5-inch HD IPS capacitive touch panel is protected with Dragon Trail Glass technology, so users wouldn't need to worry too much about scratches. OMEGA HD also boasts its design that looks powerful and elegant.

Meanwhile, Cherry Mobile released its very first QUAD-CORE smartphone powered by a Snapdragon S4 processor. Snapdragon processors are well-suited for multi-tasking.

Flame 2.0 has the specs, features, and price tag that local consumers have been waiting for. The device has a 4.5-inch qHD IPS display, 4GB internal memory, and 1GB of RAM to ensure swift operating speeds for smooth multitasking and fast webpage loading.

“Our smartphones have been very well received by consumers and we are thrilled to add OMEGA HD and FLAME 2.0 to our growing line-up,” said Lonson Alejandrino, Cherry Mobile Product Manager for Smartphones. “Cherry Mobile would keep on evolving to offer great smartphone experience to its customers.”

FLAME 2.0 also comes with a microSD card slot, dual-SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 1600 mAh battery. With its 5-megapixel snapper with picture-in-picture function, users can take photos simultaneously using the phone's rear and front cameras.
March 18, 2013, Roxas Boulevard, Manila – For a fairly mellow weather, it was just too hot to sit back and relax. And it’s actually a good thing since it was the day Cherry Mobile, once again, launches a smartphone that wouldn’t take the country by storm… but with sizzling FLAME.

Yes, the famous Cherry Mobile Flame just got its younger but slicker brother… and boy, this dude is fast! Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon, this quad core baby doesn’t only run faster than its older bro, it is even better looking than its predecessor.

As I mentioned before, I am not tech-genius, in fact, I feel like a sixth grader would have better tech-knowledge than I have. But one thing I know I am good at is COMPARING. Yes, I am a proud owner of the older Flame, and I couldn’t be any happier and satisfied with it. It got me though work and play. It was my constant companion and I can say, the little black dude has my heart… but it doesn’t mean the younger one couldn’t win my heart too… But before I dare to pick one… here’s my amateur yet raw comparison of the two Flames:

FLAME 2.0

FLAME

SPEED
Well, definitely FLAME 2.0 is faster when you try to scroll and jump from application to another. There’s also a big difference when you try to scroll and browse through applications. It’s quite a breath of fresh air to have something that works really fast (but gladly not too fast coz somehow I get a little confused when a machine works faster than my brain LOL).

MULTITASKING
FLAME 2.0 has the bigger RAM making it better at opening and using applications simultaneously. I am not saying though that the FLAME couldn’t, but FLAME 2.0 really upgraded well when it comes to it’s multitasking capabilities.

CAMERA
Although both FLAME and FLAME 2.0 has 5MP rear camera, the FLAME 2.0 has an auto focus feature making it easier and quicker to take photos. But more or less, both have the same clarity. Front camera is still blurry considering both has a VGA type of camera… but hey, it works for me still.

DISPLAY
Same vibrant display… I really cannot complain most especially since it’s really affordable. But the vivid display makes playing games quite thrilling. Both models possess the same quality, which makes it quite a catch!

STYLE
As for the style, although the FLAME 2.0 looks like the iPhone 5 from a distance, I prefer the FLAME’s style, most especially its back cover. The FLAME 2.0 had a glossy back cover which doesn’t really go with my tastes. But hey, the phone’s great and if it’s only the back cover that concerns me, I can always but accessories to match it up with my liking.

As for its other features, I cannot yet tell you much especially its battery life since I still do not have that luxury of spending more time with the FLAME 2.0. But for the price of Php6,999.00 I think any other features or even flaws (if there’s any), we can already settle with since it’s truly a value for money for a smartphone nowadays!
So… just recently I got into the one sport I never really thought I will get myself involved with… CYCLING/BIKING. I remember those days when I was driving along Daang Hari road and I see packs of bikers riding along the uphill/downhill slopes of the long winding road, and I always tell how I cannot understand the thrill of riding back and forth under the scorching heat of the merciless sun… I cannot even fathom the idea of waking up early just to sweat it out… sleeping out was just too scared for me to give up… THOSE WERE THE DAYS!

Now, ever since I got into biking…. I JUST CAN’T STOP. Now… I know what’s totally addicting with it. The thrill, the challenge and just the overall feeling of getting stronger each day you go for a ride. I started by just riding a few meters around our subdivision and a short trip to the nearby community mall. But now, I wake up at 6:30AM just to get a 30minutes ride and really sweat it out.

Wow… who would have thought I would love the feeling of getting down and dirty under the early sun just before doing everything that I need to do for the day… biking became my wake up call… You can say it has become my own form of meditation (luckily, I live on the outskirts of the metro and our subdivision is still surrounded by rice fields). I love the feeling of riding along the road and enjoying the view of the carabaos and goats, eating fresh grasses and seeing farmers tendering their beloved crops. Yes, it is the FARMVILLE life in the flesh. And I couldn’t help but smile and be thankful I live here.

Anyways, just a few days ago, my girlfriend and I decided to level it up a bit. We wanted to try going the distance and check if we can really go for a trail ride or even a trip to Tagaytay. But even though 30 to 40 kms is a short distance ride for most bikers, it didn’t felt that way for us.

Our point of origin was home, but we decided to drop by at the nearest 7-11 for breakfast (about 1 km away from home). After that, we decided to ride to The District Cavite (it’s located at the opening of Daang Hari about 7 to 8 kms from 7-11). We went there for a coffee break and for a short stroll since we were still undecided if we really are ready for the big step (for us, anyway).

At around 11:30AM (when the sun is at its finest), we finally decided to give it a go. So with our gears and all, we went on for our longest and hardest ride to date.

Our goal was to reach the Mcdonald’s at Evia City in Las Pinas. Whoa, we didn’t expect it to be that hard, and to think that riders think this is an easy and short ride. The heat did not made it any easier, we were challenged by the grilling sun and the humid wind, in short, and it was one hell of a moment for us. Yet, we chose to continue our journey, making the Mcdo, our ultimate reward.

So off we went, going up and down the “slopey” road… we came across some expert riders along the way and couldn’t even figure out how they make it look so easy. We saw that as a way to motivate us, if they can do it so can we… but then again, they are fit for it and has done it thousands of times… while us… well… you be the judge.

After an hour or so… we finally saw the huge “M” logo… and I couldn’t help but grin so big and think about all the fatty and oily things I can grab. We were beyond exhausted and hungry by the time we got there… but somehow the logo gave us a few extra energy (it’s probably an adrenaline rush). In a few quick pedals, we were right at its parking lot.

From the moment we got our orders, it was a blur. We ate and ate and ATE! It was literally gone in just a few minutes, taking one huge bite after another. As soon as we were done, that’s the moment when it finally thought about what just happened: WE DID IT! I know for expert bikers, it was nothing but if you can just imagine how sedentary our lives are and from that lifestyle to this…. It was an accomplishment!

We waited till the sun tamed for a bit to get home. Going home, we just tried to enjoy the view along the road. It isn’t something to be taken for granted. The view was really nice and since the road mostly lead downwards, the ride back going home was easier. I loved how the wind gently hits me as I increase my speed. And that was something that made me realize how great this newfound hobby is.

I know from that day onwards, I would be listing down the places I would want to ride to. And that started quick, right now, I was able to fit in my schedule a ride to Kawit and Dasmarinas, Cavite. Both were actually easier that the Daang Hari challenge, but I enjoyed it.

Next challenge: Tagaytay! Now, for that, I am sure how a bowl of steaming Bulalo can do wonders as a reward… I have to free off a day for that!
Definitely not a techie person… for quite some time my idea of technology is my laptop (because it comes with the job). Then little by little I came to understand the beauty of these high-tech gadgets. I used to think that the only use of my mobile phone was to text and call. But now, it has all sorts of feature that I didn’t even realized I needed till just recently, which made me really thank God for it.

Then just a couple of months (or was that weeks?), I got a new phone. It’s a Cherry Mobile Flame. The truth is, from a distance you wouldn’t really know that it’s a local make. From its physical style up to its performance, it’s a competitive piece of gadget that can compete with Apple and Samsung; except for the fact that it’s more than half the price… really valuable for someone so frugal, LIKE ME!

So fast forward to the present: I got invited to a Cherry Mobile launch last February 18, 2013 at Diamond Hotel… Wow! Well, except for the fact that I love Diamond Hotel’s menu (but that’s totally the “matakaw” in me), I got excited over the company’s teaser invitation….

Just imagine that. I know most gadgets nowadays operate in light speed but then, for someone so amateur with gadgets, I know that meant something great. I love my Flame now, and I think it’s not even as fast as some other phones are. But hey, it’s pretty fast for me and for the price I paid for it, I think I just got a great DEAL!

At the press and bloggers launch, you can see everyone was excited but a little clueless as to what Cherry Mobile has in store. We started the event with a sumptuous lunch (yehey!) and a simple product introduction.

Just FYI:

Cherry Mobile has three (3) mobile phones model launched since the success of the FLARE (one of their in-demand units):

On the first half of the showcase, two (2) units were raffled off to lucky guests: one BURST and one THUNDER. Off to the next part of the event, the launch of the “four-times faster” unit soon to hit the shelves!

Coming this March 2013 is Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt, powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean! It has an A9 Quad Core processor and a 7” high definition IPS display. With dual camera, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM with expandable memory up to 32GB, the Fusion Bolt is a great catch!

Not many would think that this piece of superb technology is a local brand. Gone were the days when the local brands get overthrown by the industry giants, today, Cherry Mobile really changed the game.
And of course, more than great products, the company lives on with their tagline “Values Your Lifestyle.” So when it comes to the price talk, the media had several guesses depending on how Cherry Mobile markets its products and of course, with the features of the celebrated tablet.

One yelled, “Php 6,999.00”, some guessed Php 9,000.00. I personally thought of P{hp 7,000.00.

Then suddenly, a slide appeared in front of us… Php8,000.00! For me, hey, that’s affordable. I may want to consider getting one for myself.

Then other images came up…

WOW! Php3,999.00? Seriously, media and bloggers were hyped up with that news. It’s really very seldom you see “news” people getting excited over news but this one really surprised everyone. So when another RAFFLE came up, everyone was really shaking and anxious and HOPING that they’ll win!

Three (3) units were raffled off and somehow, the people from Jack TV and a blogger won. I felt a little sting in my heart, I really wished I could have won, but then, I rarely win anything from raffles… so I guess it’s not my time…. OR SO I THOUGHT!

Suddenly, the guys from Cherry Mobile announced that each guest who attended will get ONE (1) FUSION BOLT! Can this day get any better?!!! Yes, I took home one rockin’ tablet, which is not even on the market yet! How cool is that? Cherry Mobile really was very generous to share such great piece of technology to us!

Another FYI:
As soon as I had the chance to play with my new FUSION BOLT tablet, I downloaded Temple Run 2. I used to play this from different gadgets and some of the units weren’t able to keep up with the game. But the Fusion Bolt seemed to give justice to the game, it’s really responsive and since it’s fairly light, I was able to maneuver throughout the game easily.

Then I checked out the camera, I think for a VGA front camera and 2MP back camera, it’s pretty great. I wouldn’t say I can now trade off SLR’s and digicams for this but then, it’s good enough.

Social media apps works great! Facebook, Twitter and even Instagram! I love the fact that the display is really vivid and clear, I enjoyed browsing with this tablet.

Lastly, the battery! Just imagine, since I turned it on yesterday at 80% battery. I played with it, used WIFI, and even played videos. Today, I woke up with 30% left… when they said it has a fairly long battery life, I did not expect this long. For something so affordable, the Fusion Bolt gets a TWO THUMBS UP! (If I had more thumbs, I would probably raise them all!)

Thanks to Cherry Mobile and Sir Sherwin for the invite! I enjoyed your event, and I love the Fusion Bolt, as well as the other freebies! I think I will enjoy getting a little techie from now on!
I didn’t even have the same overpowering interest for UAAP compared to my fellow Lasallians back in the days. Don’t get me wrong, I do have the Animo blood and I do love sports (I’ve played so many different sports in this lifetime… some of which I still enjoy, some remain a distant memory of fun and pain), but watching others play is not really not my thing…

Then last Saturday, February 16, 2013, I got an invitation from PRC INC to watch the PXC (Pacific Xtreme Combat) 35. Yes, you heard it right, I watched a live Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight. It was a weird moment for me and for a time, I really felt like I was in a different world. For one, I don’t even seriously watch a Pacquiao fight, so you can just imagine how out-of-place I felt inside Ynares Sports Arena surrounded by guys (and even girls) thirsty of action-packed fights.

But hey, I was already there and the best thing to do is to learn the sports and get into the groove.

So the event had nine fights (matches, or however they call it). The first one was between Glen Ranillo and Mark Billena, both true blood Pinoys. It was more of a shock to me, than entertaining. I saw two guys grabbing and hitting each other. I thought I wouldn’t survive the first fight; my heart was literally pumping and worrying of the fighters’ welfare.

Then I scanned the whole arena and saw people cheering and yelling. It sounded like they were coaching, but I couldn’t really comprehend. My hands were tightly pressing my camera and just praying no blood would burst out of the cage.

Well, luckily, the first fight was bloodless, and I was able to watch through it without my own blood draining out of my body. Ranillo won, by the way, so I moved on to the next fights.

Although every match was heart-pumping and really nerve-racking, there were two fights that stuck to my lightheadedness. It was the fight between Egon Racz of Slovakia Versus Chuji Kato of Japan and Hawaiian Louis Smolka and Pinoy American Alvin Cacdac.

For the Slovakian and the Japanese dude match, I found it a little funny (okay, fine, I found it really entertaining). Excuse my lack for vocabulary, but as the two fighters tried to strangle each other, the Japanese fighter was a little comical. He tried to lock and pin his opponent, he grabbed every opportunity to hit/punch the poor Slovakian’s head/face. He seemed to be the type of fighter who literally seized every opportunity to gain advantage over his opponent. From afar, (although I know that every blow he released meant pain for the other guy), it really looked more like what I would see from a cartoon… from a Popeye’s show perhaps?

MORE ACTION-PACKED PHOTOS AT PRC INC FACEBOOK PAGE

The other fight that marked my head (and still lingers till now) would be with Louis Smolka and Alvin Cacdac… Oh my God! From the very first ring of the bell on the first round, the match was already intense! In fact, Smolka got wounded somewhere on his face that made the cage a bloodfest.

I know the whole night wouldn’t end without some blood, but seeing it right then and there… my heart skipped a beat (or BEATS!) I really thought the guy would tap out or just accept plain defeat. But hey, no! Instead, even though he got beaten up early, he went on for the next rounds, which I guess would be a good thing. At the end of the fight (whew!), Smolka won by choking Cacdac, or from what I learned from the MMA fans, “it was a win by a rear naked choke” or something like that.

But of course, even by a non-MMA fan, I was waiting for the big event for the night: the fight between Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento and Isaiah Ordiz which was also a title fight for the Lightweight division. I really felt weird saying that it was a “lightweight” fight because 1. It wasn’t light and 2. They didn’t look lightweight with all the hard muscles bursting out of their bodies. Anyways, that’s how they call it and who am I to argue with that?

However, after eight previous fights and a few hours, the big event ended so fast! Good thing, I didn’t decide to have my restroom break ‘coz the fight did not even lasted 5 minutes (and I am not exaggerating). I guess, Sarmiento really prepared for this fight and he just wanted to get it done and over with. He wanted the title retained! I heard he lost a fight with Mark Streigl from the previous PXC event, good thing his title wasn’t on the line by then.

I feel a little “bitin” somehow. I mean, I waited for the entire night for this one, but it ended up in a whoosh. Then somehow it made me think just how raw an MMA fight is. Somehow, I used to think that MMA fights would be a lot like WWF (World Wrestling Federation) type of events where bulky guys mouth off one another and get too dramatic. But here, the guys are there for one thing and that is to fight! No side talks, no props!

It’s raw-ness makes it really a good game, which really grew into me. I wouldn’t say I would be tuning in to every fight on TV (or live). But I am saying, I learned to appreciate the sports. It was not all about hitting and causing pain (which I used to believe), it was a mind’s game with a lot of body action. These guys play smart and had strategies of their own, on top of that, they are strong men who really doesn’t like to raise white flags very often.

So, for girls (and even guys) who doesn’t get MMA, I hope I was able take you on a short journey. I tried to catch glimpses for you and somehow, maybe the sports would also grow in you.

Last February 7, 2013, one of the leading health maintenance organizations Medicard Philippines represented by Dr. Nicky Montoya, officially signed and joined hands with METAfit founder and famous Sports and Fitness Science Specialist, Coach Jim Saret to create the Medicard-Metafit Fitness Boot Camp. Present in the contract signing were Ms. Kate Cruz-Joaquin, Medicard Philippines Marketing Manager; and Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition finalists and METAfit coaches, Raffy Tan and Hazel Chua.

“We (at Medicard Philippines) are trying to be pro-active in promoting health…” shares Dr. Montoya, President of Medicard Phillipines. “Here’s a real program where we ask our members to join; that should promote a more active and healthy lifestyle.”

“If you have the nutrition, the exercise and the psychological motivation, putting that together, it fits into what we are trying to promote.” Dr. Montoya further expounds.

Left to Right: Hazel Chua (Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Finalist), Coach Jim Saret (METAfit founder), Dr. Nicky Montoya (Medicard President) and Kate Cruz-Joaquin (Medicard Marketing Manager).

In fact, Coach Jim Saret believes that the Medicard-METAfit Fitness Boot Camp is the first of its kind when it comes to fitness programs. “It’s a really good match to have the physical with the medical side, for any fitness and wellness program of any person… METAfit together with Medicard is the first one to offer all components of a total health and wellness.”

METAfit and Medicard Philippines are known in the country to help Filipinos reach their health goals, whether to lose weight or to be medically healthy. Before the partnership, these two industry movers are doing great works on their own, but they felt there was something lacking. Coach Jim couldn’t agree more, “It’s a perfect combination for a METAfit program because we are providing the physical, the motivational and the nutritional program but what’s missing basically is the medical side of this.”

The 12-session program is designed to cater to all types of individuals and fitness backgrounds. The idea of the program is to acquaint participants with basic work-outs; and depending on their capacity and determination, they will progress to more advanced routines until they graduate. Fitness goals will also be laid down, however, as Coach Jim states, participants should not be worried as he, and his team will support them every step of the way, under the medical care of Medicard. Coach Jim guarantees that at the end of the course, many would be surprised by their own bodies’ capabilities.

Joining the METAfit team are Raffy Tan and Hazel Chua. They will work as motivators and facilitators of the boot camp with Coach Jim’s lead.

The sold-out Medicard-METAfit Fitness Boot Camp will start on February 25, 2013 at the Medicard Lifestyle Center in Paseo De Roxas corner Buendia, Makati City. Medicard members, as well as non-members who signed up for the boot camp couldn’t wait any longer; they are very excited and looking forward to maximizing their body’s potentials.

Not even on its first session yet, many are already inquiring about the next boot camp. With that, the team behind the Medicard-METAfit Boot Camp couldn’t wait to get started… for sure; people can expect many more boot camps in the near future!

PXC is set to rock Manila AGAIN on February 16th, featuring a Lightweight Championship & some of the best rising stars of MMA from the Philippines, Guam, California, Hawaii, Japan, & Korea.

For people who can’t get enough of action, there’s nothing better than watching a good old fashioned brawl. Come February 16, there is going to be plenty of that and more inside the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City as the Pacific X-treme Combat, Asia Pacific’s biggest and best mixed martial arts organization, once again rolls into the country with PXC-35.

PXC has already established a name throughout Asia Pacific and its arrival in the Philippines last June 2011 cemented their reign as the premiere MMA organization by attracting the best fighters from the all over the world. With its most recent installment, PXC again makes its way to the Philippines to put a show in front of thousands of MMA fanatics.

“We are very excited to kick off the year with great matchups at PXC-35 in the Philippines,” says PXC CEO, EJ Calvo. “The card features fighters from all over the world along with rising MMA talent from the Philippines,” Calvo adds.

Harris "The Hitman" Sarmiento

PXC-35 scheduled 9 action-packed fights to be headlined by a Lightweight title fight between Filipino talents Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento (35-24) and Isaiah Ordiz (2-0). Coming off a disappointing loss to fellow Filipino-American Mark “Mugen” Striegl in PXC-34 last November, the veteran Sarmiento is set to bounce back and defend his belt against the young blood, Ordiz. This is surely a battle between a veteran and future star of the sport.

In addition, the match between American Alvin Cacdac (11-9) and undefeated Hawaiian Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka also draws attention primarily because the winner will most likely be the next contender for the Flyweight title currently held by Filipino fighter Ale “The Young Gun” Cali.

The PXC-35 fight card also includes Team Lakay’s Troy Bantiag (4-1) vs. Guam’s Tony Reyes (5-5), Japanese Chuji Kato (3-1) vs. Korean Top Team’s Hong Seung Chan (2-0), and Hawaiian Ronald Jhun (24-24) vs. Swede Zebastian Kadestam (3-0).

Other homegrown Filipino talents featured on the night are Dario Banario (2-0) vs. Joseph Mercado (1-1), Ruel Catalan (1-2) vs. Ernesto Montilla Jr. (0-1), Adrian Hillana (1-0) vs. Steve Grandeza (0-1), and Glenn Ranillo (1-2) vs. Mark Billena.

PXC-35 expects nothing but fireworks all night as fighters punch, kick and sprawl their way all for the glory of being crowned PXC victors. “We hope to see everyone at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on the 16th of February and we promise you that it is going to be an exciting night of fights,” Calvo says.

So who’s running on February 10, 2013 for the Philippine Red Cross’ Run to Save Lives (Million Volunteer Run 2)? Guess what, team PRC INC will join the event as well and do their own part to “save lives”.

But running alone is just not enough for the team… so PRC INC decided to hype up the event a few notches higher by giving away PRC INC merchandise to TEN (10) LUCKY RUNNERS who can spot us during the event.

Here’s the simple mechanics:
1. LIKE the PRC INC Facebook Page (http://facebook.com/prcinc)
2. Invite your runner friends who will also join the RUN TO SAVE LIVES event on February 10
3. SPOT the PRC INC representative (wearing the PRC INC RED SHIRT) after the run
4. First TEN (10) to approach a PRC INC representative shall WIN INSTANT PRIZES!!!

It couldn’t be any simpler than that. This is another PRC INC’s way of sharing the blessing and supporting a cause!
Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour Launched

Looking and feeling good is not just about taking care of yourself; it’s about caring for the things around you and the world you live in. This is precisely what razor brand Schick strives to promote with its ongoing Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour.

As one of the most trusted personal grooming brands for both men and women, Schick goes all out in pushing its advocacy by reaching out to their valued patrons. Through this project, the brand hopes to continue its goal of imparting positivity and self-confidence not only on a personal level but on the community scale.

The tour got off in on a rousing start last December when the caravan rolled into Salamalabanan Subdivision in Imus, Cavite, where the group initiated different activities focused on engaging and educating the community on proper physical grooming, healthy and active lifestyle, and community awareness.

The project was well received and garnered positive feedback from the community—something that Schick hopes to replicate in other locations within the metro. “We could not have asked for a better start to this tour,” says Claire Guevara, Schick senior brand manager. “The Salamalabanan community here in Imus, Cavite was very gracious and receptive to what we were trying to accomplish as a brand. We greatly appreciate the effort and the participation put forth by the community and we hope that the same goes with our next destination.”

The tour will continue to visit designated locations throughout 2013, including communities around the area of Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Antipolo and Quezon City.

As part of the brand’s continuing mission to make people feel good both inside and out, the tour’s initiatives include activities such as giving free shaves and haircuts to residents, as well as conducting clean-up drives that help encourage community awareness of health and safety among the youth.

In the first leg the tour also hosted competitions that included a three-on-three basketball game, a free-throw and half-court shootout, as well as a dance showdown, all of which promoted good sportsmanship and camaraderie within the community. The winners and participants received cash prizes and gift packs from Schick.

The group stayed true to its promise of reaching out to the grassroots level. Together with celebrity host Regine Tolentino, the caravan visited tricycle terminals, groceries, and sari-sari stores and immersed themselves in the community while handing out free Schick products.
The “miserable ones” ironically inspired me. No, I don’t think I can ever pull off singing the songs even though I try to rehearse while taking a shower. And no, I don’t think I can ever be as passionate and as hopeful like the characters Jean Valjean or Marius Pontmercy.

But one thing that made me inspired that somehow, I felt better about life. I know it is fiction and somehow exaggerated (I cannot really expect such events would literally happen in my life) but that’s the point of fiction right? It gives us the power to translate the story and relate it to our own.

http://cdn.mos.totalfilm.com/images/h/hugh-jackman-s-face-
fronts-the-latest-poster-for-les-mis-rables-117337-1000-100.jpg

And that’s what I did. I understand how “miserable” it was for Jean that his past follows him wherever he goes. That’s something I see in real life! No matter how hard we try to close some chapters in our lives, life blows a furious wind to bring us back to the previous pages. It’s an agonizing reality and even though we know it is already something in the past, the consequences still linger in our present and worse, in the future.
Then somehow we try to change “our identity” and turn our back from it. But it will keep haunting us to the point that we end up at a crossroad: should we go on and just leave everything behind (saving you’re a** with the possibility of hurting someone) OR go the Jean-way of facing the past and go through the painful reality (and still hurt someone in the process but with a clear conscience).

Of course, Jean will always be the ideal hero who will always do the right thing. But in life, do we really choose that path?

http://entertainment.inquirer.net/files/2013/01/redmayne1.jpg

Then there goes Eponine who loves Marius so dearly, yet allowed to be the bridge that will unite Marius and Cosette. That’s martyrdom and masochism at its finest. Is it even realistic? Entertainingly, YES! Let’s admit the fact that once in our lives, we really gave in to our emotions (just because we are in love) and hurt ourselves in the process. To others, that’s real love… but for me, that’s the worst kind. If you love someone and he/she doesn’t love you back, that’s painful enough as it is. But to allow that person to use you to be with someone else is just stup**. But hey, I was once an “Eponine” as everyone else was (or still is).

http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2012/10/11/
1226493/767251-les-miserables-official-poster.jpg

But the most inspiring of all would be Javert. For some reason he was obsessively searching and hunting Jean, at first because he had so much respect with the law. But then throughout the story, he was in fact hunting Jean as if that’s the only meaning to his life. He became obsessed and infatuated with the idea of finally arresting him; and somehow nothing else mattered: that became his sole purpose in life. And what happened at the end? When Jean chose not to take his revenge, he was able to touch something inside Javert which made him pass up on the opportunity of a lifetime when he had Jean cornered. With that, he lost his purpose and his life ended up meaningless: ergo he killed himself by jumping off a bridge.

In real life, we process the same way. We hunt for the things we want in life: things we want to accomplish, things we want to buy and all sorts of crazy crap of life. But take away the wealth, the power and fame; what else do you have to keep you breathing? If there’s none, then we are all Javert in our own way. That really struck me hard. If I don’t have this, and I don’t have that, what is left of me? That’s something I contemplated with. That’s deep, right?

Well, aside from the realization-crap I shared, Les Miserables will definitely be one of my all-time favorite movies. And yes, I am even considering getting an original DVD and soundtrack of it. It’s literature, it’s art and it’s culture combined. Victor Hugo was a great writer, and Les Miserables was a fine musical on stage… Les Miserables, in film, really gave justice to them all.

We are all guilty of breaking our own promises to ourselves… and yes, I am talking about that New Year’s resolutions we have made in the past that we continuously break… year after year! Somehow, breaking our resolutions almost becomes a habit: a real bad habit that’s hard to break.

How many times have we said to ourselves that we will stay fit for once? How many times we swore not to procrastinate? How many times have you told yourself that this is the last stick you’ll ever smoke? Well, how have you been lately? Are you slimmer? Did you work doubly hard this year? Are you smoke-free? I guess not, because IF YOU DID, YOU WOULDN’T EVEN READ THIS BLOG ANYMORE.

I dug up a couple of ways how we can stick to our resolutions for 2013. It may not be a 100% effective… but then again, I guess another year of trying to stick with our resolutions wouldn’t hurt. We’ve been doing that for a couple of years now, anyways. So here it is, five ways to stick with your resolutions for 2013.

1. Involve another person. Somehow, we have a nasty habit of breaking our promises to ourselves guilt-free but so hard for us to break promises to a person very close to our hearts. We can share our resolutions to our moms, best friend or even to our lovers. This way, not only will you have someone constantly reminding of your New Year’s resolutions, it would also be hard for you to disappoint or frustrate them.
2. Write it down. Have you heard of the saying, “easy to say, hard to do”? Well, that’s true in most cases especially when it comes to resolutions. Writing it down makes it accurate and precise, rather than just blurting about it spontaneously and forgetting it the very next minute. It gives finality to what we promised. You can even sign it to give it more value.
3. Post it. No, it is not just about posting it on your favorite social media. It is about posting your resolution to a spot where you can always see it. The spot should be somewhere you wouldn’t miss. For me, I have what I call a Vision Board. I created a collage of all the things I want and don’t like. Since its right in front of my working table, it’s hard for me to miss it. I even put motivational quotes there too. Other spots that may work out for you would be your mirror, your fridge or even your rearview mirror (if you drive).

4. Join a group. Although our resolutions may be unique by purpose and reasons, the deed may not be as different from the resolutions of others. For example, if you promise to quit smoking this 2013, then there may be another person who wants to achieve the same thing. It’s not a bad idea to get together with that person or a group of people sharing the same resolution and stick with it together. It may be easier to get through the process if you know you are not alone.
5. Mark it permanently. I know you may be confused but what I mean about it is to get a tattoo. It may be a phrase or an image; something that represents your resolution and have it permanently inked on your body. Not only is it an artistic and creative way to sticking with your promise, the pain that comes with it makes it more meaningful and personal. The promise is not just simply said, it is marked and it would be really frustrating not to stick with it if you see it every day on your skin, mocking you of your broken resolution.

The first four ways are simple and anyone could just do it. But the last one is a little more sensitive and requires professional help that is legit, true and safe. That’s why the first thing you should do if you want to go through the fifth way is to look for a tattoo artist that can deliver safe and beautiful masterpieces, after all, there’s no turning back if you decided to get inked.

One good people you can count on when it comes to tattoo are the guys from Chilli and Ink. The artists behind it are real time artists who not only respects ART, they also believe that a person who wants to get a tattoo must not only do it for the sake of fashion and trend, the mark should be personal and close to the heart. But what’s even better with them is that they also serve great food as you get inked… you can even bring in your whole barkada with you on your special ink day. They can chill and dine as they wait for you as you make the most permanent mark of your life.
(PR RE-POSTED)

The height of the wet season in the country isn’t getting much help from the spate of other natural disasters like earthquakes and a string of typhoons. While such upheavals may be considered normal because of our orientation along the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, there’s the even larger context of climate change whose impacts are felt all the way around the world.

Climate change or global warming has become evident in recent years as regions experience extreme climates, from warm seasons hitting record-high temperatures to wet seasons exhibiting massive precipitation. This is precisely the reason why organizations from both the public and private sectors call for extra vigilance.

As an advocate of safety and awareness, Eveready Philippines is taking an active stance in educating the public about being always ready when disaster strikes. “Now that we are at the height of what we can rightfully call ‘typhoon season’, Filipinos are again reminded to ensure that their family is always ready,” says Energizer representative Johanna V. Emata “This, of course, starts with awareness of certain situations and proper knowledge of which equipment and supplies are needed to be ready for any type of calamity.”

Keep up with the latest
The first thing to do at the onset of any calamity is to keep watch over the situation regardless of whether you are located near disaster-prone areas or not. This means keeping constantly updated with breaking news about the progress of the storm and related developments over television or radio.
It also helps to be oriented on PAGASA’s Public Storm Warning Signals (PSWS) as well as their recently released color-coded rainfall advisory, which would help people be ready for any possible situations. While PSWS corresponds to increasing storm intensity from PSWS#1 to PSWS#4, the rainfall advisory tracks the level of rainfall that determines rising water levels.

Code Yellow means heavy rain that will deposit about 7.5 to 15mm of water—a situation that requires constant monitoring of the weather condition because of the possibility of flooding. Code Orange, on the other hand, means intense rain that will deposit about 15 to 30mm of water. This code requires people to be alert for possible evacuation due to threat of floods. Code Red, like any other red-alert status, means danger. With more that 30mm of rainfall, low-lying areas are to expect serious flooding that would require residents to immediately evacuate.

Knowing these facts offer foresight and provide a chance to be always ready for possible disaster. Being ready means having ample time to strategize on which areas to avoid, how to safeguard property, or, at worst, evacuate the premises.

Basic Needs
If you and your family do get caught in a situation that leaves little or no margin for error, it helps to be prepared and armed with the right equipment and supplies. “Faced with an emergency disaster situation, what you have inside your home, or ultimately inside your bag, may spell the difference between life and death,” says Emata. “Being prepared with the right tools will definitely ensure you and your family’s survival.”

Securing the basic necessities of food, shelter, and clothing is of utmost importance. Making sure that the household is secure and waterways are free of debris are essential, as is stocking up on provision like bottled water and food that have a long shelf life.

An emergency kit that includes a multitool knife, First Aid materials, transistor radios, and flashlights should be accessible at all times. Cell phones should be charged in case of power interruption and emergency numbers must be on hand.

Help is on the way
It’s also important to stock up on long-lasting batteries. Aside from powering radios for information and flashlights for navigating through the dark, a good set of batteries powers signaling devices that can spell the difference between getting rescued and being left behind.

Eveready, the country’s leading battery brand, took the initiative to equip emergency response units like the Philippine Red Cross and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council with hands-free Energizer Headlights and Batteries needed to conduct rescue and relief operations.

Through partner organizations GMA Kapuso Foundation and ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya, Eveready also provided emergency lights and battery energy to families affected by massive flooding during the recent southwest monsoon (habagat) rains in most of Metro Manila and large parts of Luzon.

As a brand that has empowered Filipino lives for decades, Eveready reiterates the importance of being vigilant and ready at all times. “Given that our country is very much prone to natural calamities, we should all take time to prepare and invest on the safety of our families and homes,” says Emata. “It is a small price to pay considering the value of the things and the lives that you can save.”
I grew up loving zombie movies, and just recently I got so hooked with watching Walking Dead that I ended up watching the two whole seasons twice! I couldn’t imagine how life would be if a real outbreak does happen in real life, and soon my curiosity and wonder if I would survive an actual outbreak got the best of me. I then took up all the courage and signed up for one!

Goofing around instead of stretching LOL

Well of course, it wasn’t a real one, but it was close enough. Last July 28, 2012, I came and ran at the Outbreak Manila – BGC with my cousin, Pegs! Although it was encouraged to come in costumes, my cousin and I decided to dress casually and comfortably. I mean, c’mon, if we were in a real outbreak, would we really want to dress up first? Would you?

We were in the 17th wave and it was already dark by then (8:30ish PM?). And to make things worse and more challenging, the rain started pouring in as our wave was called in for the briefing. Well, for me, I didn’t mind the rain although I did have a hard time since I was wearing contacts. I also forgot to do some stretching and warm ups (but then it’s alright coz it was a real test if I will survive an outbreak – no one stretches and warms up in the Walking Dead right?).

My heart was pounding with excitement and fear. For one, I was terribly frightened by the zombies (even though I know they weren’t really real) and second, the dark made it scarier! But hey, if it were a real outbreak, chances are I would be really running in the dark right? But then we came prepared and brought with us LED flashlights, which I think was a smart move since it helped me big time throughout the course.

With the sound of the alarm, everyone started running. We tried to stick with our plan of not going separate ways but as soon as the first zombie showed up, I was running mindlessly, little did I know that Pegs already got pushed and had a few bruises. But good thing, she quickly got up and get on with it.

When things cleared up, I slowed down a bit and waited to see if Pegs was anywhere near. But it was a bit hard to wait because every now and then, zombies showed up chasing the crap out of us. Soon, I noticed Pegs and we started to run together again.

That didn’t last long though as more zombies blocked our way. We were dodging and moving left and right, making sure the zombies wouldn’t get even a single life flag. But as I was running, I bumped into a hooded girl whom I thought was one of the runners. Then I felt it like a knife on my gut (well not exactly but my heart was pounding like it was), the hooded girl turned out to be a zombie and she quickly grabbed my life flag. If I were in a real outbreak, I consider that moment as the moment I dropped half of my bullets. And now I am running with just a gun and an axe (in my imagination).

It went on for quite a while, but before even reaching the second kilometer, I got into a terrible accident. A zombie was running after me and I sprinted as fast as I could, which I think I did awesomely coz the girl behind me got caught while I outran the walker. But the intensity of the run (and someone accidentally hitting my thigh with his knee) got me injured. It hurt so much that I was limping towards the water station (safe zone) out of breath! Pegs was already there when I arrived and she was also having a hard time running because of her bruises from the early attack.

I gulped down two cups of water and rested for a while. But since I felt that staying there would just be a waste of time, I started to get back on the course, limping, hopping and running. But I wasn’t able to get too far when a swarm of zombies came and soon, my thigh got so bad that I had to go to the medic.

The guys who rescued me were nice and applied a liniment on my thigh (though it didn’t help much, I’m sorry to say that). I rested again for a bit and stretched my legs, hoping it would get better. After a few minutes wasted, I decided to get back on track, but I tried to take it a little slower this time.

Then here’s the great part. I think zombies still had a little humanity left in their hearts. When they saw me limping alone in the street, most of them turned the other way instead of chasing after me. Some even pretended not to see me. I guess the whole injury was able to help me survive it. I was able to safely walk a few kilometers safely, without losing anything but my thigh, I guess.

But don’t get me wrong; even though there were fewer zombies, the walk with a hurting leg was a great challenge. I had to go to another medic to help me stretch it so that I can manage to walk. There were so many obstacles and walking alone in the dark surely got me terrified. The medics wanted me to just hop in to the ambulance, but I kept insisting on finishing it. If this were a real outbreak, there’s not gonna be an easy way out so I might as well push my luck.

Survival against the zombies wasn’t the only challenge; it was also the walk down the dark and slippery road on an injured leg. As painful as it was, I continued to walk the haunted path until I came across a maze. Oh my god, of all things why do they had to build a maze. I am so bad with direction and I have always feared getting stuck in a maze. But I had no other option and there weren’t anyone to be with. So with all the courage that I had with me, I got into the maze alone.

I came across a few dead ends but luckily, there weren’t any walkers around. I slowly walked so that no one could sense I was there. I tried to walk against the walls of the maze, so that I could feel if anyone was near where I was. Soon, I finally saw the exit and hurriedly got back on the course.

After the maze, I felt a sense of hope that I could survive this outbreak. Until I reached the latter zone of the course… more than fifteen zombies blocked the road and several abandoned scattered the street. This was the perfect version of my dooms day!

I tried to walk slowly. Other runners were running and already panicking. I tried to lay low so that the zombies wouldn’t see me walking alone on the other side of the road. I almost got out of the horde of zombies, until one walker noticed me. She was indeed very hungry for flags and she totally lost her humanity, she quickly grabbed my flag and I hurriedly limped my way out of there.
Finally! I reached the safe zone. And guess what?! I managed to get out with two flags left. One red flag and a white one that I got from Juice.ph and Eyp.Ph. The extra white flag could be a lifesaver, if things got out of hand. And as I walked down the safe path towards the finish line, I was so happy to see Pegs, still alive! She even managed to survive with three flags (although she lost a flag right there at the finish line coz things were getting crazy with the scanning of bibs and stuff).
And that’s my story on how I came, ran and survived Outbreak Manila. If it were a real outbreak, I may have ended up with no weapon and a broken leg, but then the important thing was I SURVIVED… alone! Yes, for me it gave me a sense of hope that in case a real zombie outbreak happens, I would probably have a higher chance of surviving and not turning into a walker.
