Useful or Useless

"It is better to know useless things than to know nothing" - Tom Stoppard

As I was doing my quotation surfing, I came across this particular quote under uselessness quotes. I smiled as I was reading it because I kind of said something like this before. I am a wide reader and every now and then, I get to read a lot of information that not necessarily needed for everyday life. One time I told something about how the earth moves and shifts continuously to a friend. She just stared at me and told me that why on earth should I need to read about such things, I am no scientist. But all I said was, it may be useless now but someday... somehow I can use that information for greater good. Then time came when I was meeting up a client who was really strict and serious, I didn't know how to get his trust and humor doesn't work either. After I did my presentation, we chit-chatted for a while. That was the worst two minutes of my life because everything I said seem dumb for him, until I somehow mentioned that earthly movements. Somehow, that got his attention and we exchanged several thoughts on it. I finally got his trust and friendship and even got awarded the deal.

And that brings me to one of the usefulness quotes I read that Henry Ford said:

"Whatever you have, you must either use or lose"

That piece of information was useful for me and that's what I had then. Everything you have should be utilize or just throw it away. Do not be a clutter... use whatever you got or just forget about it. That's how life goes! You have to know how to work with the information you have. Coz its about how you lived your life and make the most of it.

"You live on earth only for a few short years which you call an incarnation, and then you leave your body as an outworn dress and go for refreshment to your true home in the spirit.
- White Eagle

As one of the quotes on afterlife says, we are here for a very short while... So make the most out of it so in the end, as we leave our mortal life, we can say that we did utilize that seemed to be useless life and made it into a useful life.

First Run of the Year: Valucare Run 2012

A half of the year had passed and just decided to join my very first fun run of the year. I’ve been very lazy and inactive… 2012 was a year of many changes for me (including work) and now, I just decided to change my lifestyle altogether (well, not that much but I decided to make it a little healthier).

So I went on and joined the Valucare Run last June 16, 2012. Without even doing some pre-work-outs, I joined a 3K long challenge. Although, I jogged (once) and tried playing football (once!) this year, aside from those two (which made me a cripple for a week), I had zero work-out for the first half of the year!

That's me on the left and my running mate, Peggy on the right

I invited my cousin Pegs to be my running mate. Unlike me, she enrolled at the gym and even run regularly whenever she can. So she is rather more prepared than I was. But well, I really didn’t care and just went on. My only goal was not to finish the run and not to finish last. Good thing is I actually attained my goals!

With Chona, running aficionado!
Check out my bib number... weird that of all numbers....

We got there before 5:30AM… Driving early in the morning was refreshing… no traffic and fresher air! As we got there, a lot of runners were already there stretching and all. We weren’t that late and we even caught Julieanne San Jose (did I spelled her name right?) sing. After a couple of minutes, we were instructed to get ready for the run… and so it happened!

Getting ready for the run!

Just a few minutes before the gun shot, Running host Boy Ramos even lead a simple pre-run stretching. As the gun fired, everyone started running. I had a great start. I ran but then after a couple of steps, I got caught in a running barkada (aka running fence). Yes, those were the guys who ran together and blocking other’s way. I found myself on a running obstacle course, making me more exhausted than I already was.

Searching for my running mate!

By the time I got out of the mess, I found my running mate too far for me to catch up. So instead of running after her, I just decided to run on my own pace. The weather is nice… windy and cold… but good thing it didn’t drizzled while we were running. After what seemed like forever, I finally saw the 1KM mark. GREAT! I am still alive!

That's me... sleeping while running! LOL

Getting so close.... few more steps!

Then a couple of minutes of running/jogging and mostly walking fast, I saw the 2KM mark. I just thought, FINALLY… just one more KM to go and I’m done. That boosted up my energy a bit. And when I finally saw the FINISH line, I got so excited that I ran a little bit faster!

Finally! I’m done and I saw my running mate taking photos of me… ALIVE! LOL

The Valucare Run 2012 was amazing! The race started almost on time and it was very organized. Water was plenty, so runners weren’t that scared of getting dehydrated. There were plenty of freebies too! Although the rain poured on us making it a bit hard to visit every booth in the event, all in all.. I think the guys behind the run did a GREAT JOB!

Sporty Dad's Perfect Gift!

A few days left till father's day and I couldn't help but wish my dad is here. My dad is in Japan, he is based there as I am here. Although, we chose to stay apart for work reasons, I would always cherish my dad.

Papa is the one who inspired me to get into sports. When I was a kid, he encouraged me to train for gymnastics, swimming and even tennis. As he said, sports will not only keep me fit and healthy, it will also teach me to be disciplined, patient, goal-oriented and driven. Yes, that's what sports teach us really. Ever since I could remember, my papa would always want me to play ball and even wrestling (imagine that, I am his only daughter and yet we wrestle... no wonder I grew up so unlady-like LOL).

In college, I joined different clubs like tennis and hockey. I do swim (and boy, how I love it!) too. I also love trying out new sports, even though I wouldn't really plan on focusing on it, I want to try it and feel the thrills and excitement of the sports. So far, I have tried, frisbee, football, wakeboarding, skimboarding and so much more. All I can say is, the feeling you get after playing and the adrenaline-pumping action are worth it. Yes, it may give me aches and sores all over my body, but hey, it's part of it. The experience is priceless.

And with every sports that I try, I always think of my dad. He's quite an athlete himself, he plays baseball, golf, swimming and all sorts. He really is a believer of sports. I will always be thankful of all those years where he inspired me, I may not be a professional athlete now (and I think I am far from it) but from him I knew the value of it.

If your dad is like my papa, I am sure he is someone really awesome. And for the active father that he is, you should give him something that matches his drive and passion! Toby's Sports offers a wide variety of products that encourages a healthy and active lifestyle. From fitness equipment, sports apparel, accessories and footwork, Toby’s is the perfect place to find a sporty gift for your dad this Father’s day.

“We offer great gifts for dads this coming Fathers’ Day, products that will greatly encourage them to get back into shape and live a healthy lifestyle,” said Toby’s Sports president, Toby Claudio. “Personally, if my kids were to give me a gift this Father’s day, I would like to get the Shake Weight dumb bells. It’s the perfect gift for busy dads like me, since it allows me to workout even at home and without going to the gym” he added.

But if he is more of runner, don’t just settle on getting him a pair of running shoes. First of all, get him a great brand, and secondly, make sure that it comes from a store that specializes in catering to his favorite sport. He will definitely appreciate the thought and effort in buying him his gift. Get it only from RUNNR, the first world-class pure running specialty store in the metro.

In addition to offering a wide track of the best running brands from around the world, RUNNR adds a dash of science behind this activity. It offers a suite of state of the art services called FOOTWORX that provides Footprint Analysis, Video Gait Analysis, and Custom Insole Moulding. The result is a shoe that matches the exact type of foot, allowing your dad to push himself more into his passion for running.

“We envisioned RUNNR to carry everything that can satisfy even the most die-hard aficionado of the sport. Running dads who want nothing but the best will definitely find it here, and they deserve it on their special day,” said store founder Toby Claudio.

Now that you have these new ideas, it is about time to start putting them into action. Father’s Day is just around the corner, so go now to the nearest Toby Sports outlets or RUNNR outlets and get your dad the perfect sporty gift.

Men's Cheating Ways

Source: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9Yh4OZD47yU/TxGqHPJbEaI/AAAAA
AAAFAo/DHO7I8geZN0/s1600/Cheating.jpg

Okay, I know not all men cheat. In fact, I know quite a few guys who remained faithful in their years of commitment. But generally speaking, and I mean, based on the majority of circumstances, a guy have cheated at least once in their lives.

And when it comes to men's cheating, I encountered a lot of articles from so many interesting and informative websites like Snifd.com that explains how to deal with cheating men or how to cope with it. But one thing I want to figure out is the reason why men cheat

I think one reason why men cheat is because the longer a couple stays together, the lesser they put an effort on it. Men seek thrills (have you ever wondered why they love sports so much?); they love the excitement and the fire out of the relationship. Some women tend to slack off and get too comfortable forgetting that they also need to spice things up. It is not really much about fulfilling the guy's needs, it is more of being consistent. If you were able to get the fire going then, then it must be alright to keep it going. Relationships should also need hard work. BUT the fire of the relationship shouldn't stay in bed, I am talking about getting into couple activities like sports and crafts to keep the bond with each other. Men do also need a women's emotional support, you need to be there for him even if you feel like he doesn't even get your emotional highs and lows.

Then maybe, there goes a guy's competitive nature. Guys love to explore and search for something better. They always say things like they have a missing puzzle in their lives that they need to complete. And sometimes, this puzzle is in form a woman. It might be true that you are not the puzzle, and he has no right to cheat on you, no matter what. But before reaching the point of the "missing puzzle" maybe its best to talk about it subtly and gently. Figure out if your guy feels something is missing and try to figure it out together. Maybe, it's not really another woman that he needs, guys can really just get carried away and get confused sometimes (or most of the times).

Or lastly, maybe he is just a cheater who wants it all. It's like he is on a treasure hunt and he needs to explore every island, every cave, every jungle without really knowing what he is searching for. He may also be really that greedy with women. If this is the case, c'mon, maybe you should just leave him. YOU DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER... and reading and learning about him and why he cheats is a total waste of time.

Awareness: Defense Against What Lies Ahead

SOURCE:http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0n9_ODR6OZQ/TcBJMj3gClI/
AAAAAAAAADw/rtfUUDIFNBA/s1600/knowledge+ignorance.jpg

A week has passed and by this time, most students are already settled in to their new school environment. For some, a new school year is the beginning of new friendships and new challenges but the truth is, a new school year represents a new chapter; another start of one's life where we acquire new information and if lucky, wisdom.

For me, my school years had been long over. And everyday, I see my life as new chapters unfolding one after another. I used to think that life is such a small playground, but once you're done with it, you thought you're finished but no, you are just beginning.

I was actually browsing again for quotes that could inspire current students. I came across FinestQuote.com and it was filled with so many quotes and saying that most would probably get inspired with. But as I clicked one button after another and scrolled pages after another, I came across such a strong quotation:

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than a sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
- Martin Luther King Jr.

Yes, the great man himself. Mr. King is really one of the most influential people of all time and I think it is just fair. The man is really wise and smart. He truly know what he is talking about. Just read this quote! I really believe that ignorance really is such a dangerous thing! It can result into accidents, unfavorable situations or worse, crimes. No wonder I found this under quotes about danger. Stupidity and ignorance are two things that breaks a strong family, friendship and even a country. And this is why, we go to school. To keep us informed and knowledgeable of what goes around us. Being ignorant would either get you into trouble or will force you to initiate trouble. Whichever happens, it usually ends very badly.

And that led me to another one I found from the quotes on awareness, which is actually really short but so much depth comes with it:

"Awareness is empowering"
- Rita Wilson

It might be really short but if you try to contemplate on it, it is one of the most intelligent lines you would encounter. Yes, being aware cannot only be empowering, it can also give you power because of that certain knowledge. You really cannot expect yourself to be an expert on everything, but through awareness, you prevent yourself to become ignorant; ergo you pull yourself away from danger,

Students who can read this may think I am just writing gibberish but once you get to that point when you are set for the real life, you will understand what I mean. And this post serves as your heads up. Like what I have said, being aware can keep you empowered and away from danger. By allowing yourself to think about what I've said, you are already a step farther from danger.

Tough Guy's Day-Off with Clarity

Father's Day is coming up and though I would love to treat my Dad to celebrate it with him, it would cost me a fortune to get to where he is, plan a surprise day-out and go back here where I am based. So I figured, I can just call him on June 17 to greet him a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

But for all those who are lucky enough to be with their dads and celebrate it. But forget the usual  dinner blow-out or adventure trips. Your dad may be the big guy of the family but it doesn't mean he doesn't need a little beauty regimen every now and then. Your mom is not the only one who wants to look good, your dad does as well. And here's your chance for a day at beatifying your dad!

List of the Good & Bad Guys of Movies

It's a rainy Thursday afternoon and while resting up from work, I browsed for movies I haven't watched. You see, I am a movie buff. I have hundreds of movies in my hard drive and all of it I watched. It's kind of my addiction, I enjoy a watching all sorts too, from thriller to comedy... well not so much action flicks unless it's really really good or I know the actors in there are good.

Speaking of actors, I came across this interesting site with a list of anything famous. I got curious coz you know, most famous actors do have great movies (or they just really really look good, even though they can't act... it's alright). I browsed their list and came across the list of famous actors of all time.

It said... "all time" so I figured there will be a lot of actors there from the early years of the movie industry. And I was right. In fact, on top of their list was Humphrey DeForest Bogart. Humphrey what?

SOURCE: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fu3bJWMayK4/Tkqb

I'll be honest. I don't have a clue who the guy was but according to the site, he was considered by the American Film Institute as the "greatest male star of the American Film Industry". And I still don't have a clue who he is. Then his filmography includes The Petrified Forest, Casablanca, High Sierra, The African Queen, To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep and Dark Passage, among others. And yep, I still don't have a clue.

SOURCE: http://facileblog.it/files/9/files/2011/06/
Leonardo_DiCaprio.jpg

Then the second spot went to Leonardo DiCaprio. Now, that's someone I know. For some reason, this guy is incredibly famous. I know he got the good looks and he is also incredibly talented but I don't know, I think he shouldn't be as celebrated as he is. There are plenty of other great actors out there but the way they treat Leo is just different and it all started with Titanic. The huge ship really made him BIG.

Other guys on the list was Amitabh Harvansh Bachan (he's a famous Indian actor), Marlon Brando Jr., Charles Spencer Chaplain (Charlie Chaplain, don't tell me you don't know him), Eldred Gregory Peck (I have no clue who he is, but he's good looking), Peter O'Toole (kinda familiar... maybe it's his eyes), Daniel Radcliffe (Who doesn't know Harry Potter), Harrison Ford (the handsome Indiana Jones) and George Olson Welles (sorry, really don't know him).

These actors are the lead stars that made producers filthy rich. I am not sure if they are as good as they are famous, but who cares? The fan base are huge and their films sell.

But aside from the lead stars, anybody here loves the bad guys like me? I can't help it, the villains really gets my attention and most of them are superb actors. So I browsed for famous movie villains and the list looked like something I expected.

SOURCE: http://images.wikia.com/avp/images/d/d6/

On top of the list was lead star villain, The Terminator. Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger (whew! his last name was so hard to spell) himself! The movie was pretty popular and back when I was still a kid, I tagged Arnold as the Terminator, thinking he was nothing but that.

SOURCE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Heyes.jpg

Next on the list was Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) of Silence of the Lambs. This is one of my all time favorite movies and of course, I love Hannibal. He is the creepiest villain there is. And I have watched plenty of screwed up movies but I think Hannibal is the king of all creeps. He makes Jigsaw nothing but a little boy playing with fire. He is the ultimate villain, and an intelligent one too. Who isn't scared of a cannibal anyway?

Others on the list was Dracula (Christopher Lee) of Dracula, Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) Harry Potter, Cruella De Vil (Betty Lou Gerson) of 101 Dalmatians, Shark named Bruce of The Jaws, Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) of Avatar, the Birds (played by birds) of Birds (LOL!!!!!), Grendel (Crispin Glover) of Beowulf and Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) of Spiderman.

The villains may be the bad guys of the movies but the truth is, there are people like myself who watches movies because of the villains. These guys are cool and they make the movies interesting. Just imagine a movie where everyone's good and happy, that's one terrible movie, I may say!

Live By Other's Wisdom

SOURCE:http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_RGGB9xZefFs/
S9eY9BOa5JI/AAAAAAAAAL4/LBZfeOHz
aw8/s1600/independent-w oman-copy1.jpg

It's the middle of the night and I just couldn't sleep yet. One thing that keeps me entertained in the wee hours of the night/morning is browsing quotes. I'm a believer of living by other's wisdom. I am not saying though that you don't need to be wise on your own, but learning what other people, most especially those who have marked their footsteps onto this world, really helps a lot.

Such inspiring quotes keep me going. In fact, my vision board in my work area are filled with quotes that keeps me driven and motivated to reach my goals. I think it's very important for people to have phrases or words that they live by, so they won't get lost in the way. Life is really full of distractions and quotes serve as my light brightening up my way.

Tonight, as I was browsing the net, searching for yet another quote, I came across some quotes about wrestling. I used to enjoy watching wrestling matches; those real wrestling games and not the scripted ones. And I find the sports real hard, and when I came across quotes about it, I browsed it and found the most interesting ones...

"The art of living is more like that of wrestling than of dancing; the main thing is to stand firm and be ready for an unseen attack." - Marcus Aurelius Antonius

This is so true. Sometimes life gives you unexpected turns and blows, and when you're unprepared, you go rock bottom. I know that and I experienced being rock-bottom. It wasn't a pleasing time of my life and the sad fact was, I had to go through it more than twice before I finally learned my lesson.

But finally I did get it. (At Last!) and now, I don't let my guards down. I try to keep it waist high so that anytime something may happen... I am ready for it... I have enough time to raise up my arms and block all the punches of life.

And this brings me to another important fact of life. That you have to be strong, no matter what. You can get kicked and punched, but you still have to stay strong and keep on fighting. There are quotes on strength that I also came across but one really lingered on my mind:

"There are admirable potentialities in every human being. Believe in your strength and your truth. Learn to repeat endlessly to yourself. 'It all depends on me.'" - Andre Gide

It is nothing but plain reality. In life, you only got to rely on yourself. That is real strength. If you depend on anyone else, then that is your weakness. Depending on someone can leave you hanging by a thread knowing you can be safe or not. But if you depend on yourself alone, you know what you need to do. If your plan fails, so what? You have you to get back on track. And that independence is what makes a person the master of his or her own life.

JOHNNY ROCKETS Home of the Dancing Waiters and Huge Satisfying Burgers and Unlimited Fries

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
The "American Diner" feel inside Johnny Rockets
Plenty of this hanging on their wall... NICE!
Ready to EAT!!!

It wasn’t a planned eat out. Me and my friend Mai of Randomness is Bliss was just walking around Robinson’s Galleria (and even planning to head to Greenhills just to eat something) when we saw the Johnny Rockets diner. It was the perfect all-American diner that I have always loved to see in movies. And to see it right in front of me, well let’s just say I couldn’t say NO.

Mai deciding what to order!
Waiting for the BURGER & FRIES!

And also, I couldn’t refuse a decent burger. Burgers here in the Philippines are tiny and thin and when I see ones with veggies, tomatoes and that sparkling meat patty… WOW… I’m hooked. Of course, since it’s my first time here, I ordered their classic with unlimited fries. And boy, was I happy about that.

Fries make my day complete and when it’s unlimited… that’s like food heaven for me. And to take that guilty pain in my stomach… I just decided to pair it with water…  at least it’s a less sinful way to go.

My Classic Burger with Fries!!!
This is what Mai got... dunno what it was but it had bacon in it! YUMMY!

After a few minutes… VOILA… my BURGER and FRIES… and it were huge and plenty! And there was a cute ketchup-made smiley drawn on the saucer… it really did made me smile. I did not really expected the huge potato wedges…  but hey, I munched on it the second it landed on my table.
Mai, ordered something more special.. it had bacons in it. And Mai is not as animalistic like me when it comes to greasy stuff… Although she did enjoy her burger, she couldn’t really finish it all, including the fries. It was too much for her, so just a heads up, for the slim ones, I suggest you share the burger.

As for mine, well I definitely ate all the burger up to its tiny little pieces. But I wasn’t able to finish the fries, not because I couldn’t but it got cold and I left a few pieces of stale ones. To be honest though, the unlimited was too much though. The fries were thick and plenty, and not unless you haven’t eaten in a few days, I doubt a regular Filipina girl could get another serving of the fries with the burger.

Presenting... the DANCING JOHNNY ROCKETS crew!

Oh and the fun part of it was, the crew danced twice during my whole stay. They danced to a particular song… but I forgot what it was.... LOL. The crew and their manager really got their groove on. It was cute since they were really dancing with choreography and not just pretending to be.
